Light Manufacturing is Alive in Downtown Gloversville

Downtown Gloversville welcomes cottage industries, also known as light manufacturing organizations, which emphasize unique and quality products with local flavors and designs. Current companies in the Downtown Corridor include Upstate Coffee Roasters, Adirondack Stained Glass Works, Herrl Woodcraft & Son, The Fly Shack and Samco LLC.

Upstate Coffee Roasters, located at 34 W. Fulton St., is an NFC Organic Certified Specialty Coffee that is in the food and retail manufacturing industry. Starting six years ago in Gloversville’s Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market, it continues those relations and expanded showcasing and selling its products to other community co-ops through the state. In addition to online sales, coffee can be purchased at a variety of stores and can be seen at community activities, including Wheelerville Trails events.

Adirondack Stained Glass Works, located at 29 W. Fulton St., has been a driving force in the glass and glass product manufacturing field for over 40 years. With the workshop located beneath the store, the craftsmen take their time creating delicate and beautiful lamps, doors, sidelights, windows, mirrors and more for residential commercial and church-based customers. Ninety percent of the shop’s business is custom work.

Herrl Woodcraft & Son (HW Custom Kitchens), located at 39 Hamilton St., is a family owned and operated cabinet manufacturing business that takes old world craftsmanship and modern designs to create handmade cupboards and more. With more than 50 years of working in Gloversville, the craftsmen work with the finest hard and soft woods to help make the customer’s dream kitchen a reality.

Starting its apparel manufacturing business in 1992, Samco has been creating gloves in the city once known as the “Glove Capital of the World.” The company recently purchased 8-10 E. Fulton Street and will continue producing leather dress gloves for the U.S. Military, assembled by hand by local sewing machine operators.

The list continues to grow, and Downtown Gloversville enjoys highlighting the locally made products.
