Downtown Gloversville is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of American history, local talent, and community spirit. Starting Thursday, July 2nd, the third floor of the Historic Schine Memorial Hall (42 N. Main St.) will come alive with “Memorial Hall Cultural & Arts Center (MHCA) Celebrates America 250”—an immersive, multi-media exhibition honoring our nation’s semiquincentennial.

 

This incredible project brings together an expansive collection of regional artists and historians to offer a deeply moving, localized perspective on American heritage. Whether you are a history buff, an art lover, or looking for a great community event, here is everything you need to know about this month-long celebration.

Kick off your Independence Day weekend by exploring the gallery and mingling with fellow community members!

  • When: Thursday, July 2nd, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

  • Where: MHCA, Historic Schine Memorial Hall, 3rd Floor (Enter adjacent to Storto Gloves and take the elevator right up!)

  • Admission: Free (Donations are gratefully accepted to support future cultural and educational programming).

The exhibition showcases an incredible lineup of local talent and historical curators:

  • Don Williams: The prominent local historian will present documentation on America's founding documents and insights into regional Revolutionary War hero, Nick Stoner.

  • Jack Horning: The iconic local artist will display a curated collection of original patriotic paintings.

  • Bill Trojan: Professional photojournalist highlighting powerful local patriotic photography throughout the gallery.

  • Sandra Maceyka: An archival segment featuring historic personal memorabilia focused on Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the women’s suffrage movement.

  • Tony Ferraro: A respectful salute to regional veterans, featuring a preserved collection of military photography and historical memorabilia.

  • Kathy Oughton, Tina Reeves, and Mary Jane White: A premier showcase of masterfully crafted patriotic quilts and textile structures.

 

If you can't make the opening night, you can still catch the exhibit on these select dates and times throughout July:

  • Friday, July 10: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

  • Saturday, July 11: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • Sunday, July 12: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • Tuesday, July 14: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Special Educational Lecture

  • When: Tuesday, July 14th at 6:00 PM

  • Where: Memorial Hall Screening Room

  • What: Fulton County Historian Samantha Hall Saladino will present an immersive lecture titled, "Road to Revolution: Exploring the People, Places, and Events of Tryon County."
