Feel the Holiday Magic: All Aboard the Polar Express in Gloversville!
The holiday season in Gloversville is always full of charm, tradition, and community spirit — and this year, it’s getting even more magical with multiple events celebrating The Polar Express, a heartwarming story that has become a treasured part of the season for families everywhere.
In The Polar Express, a mysterious steam locomotive sweeps a young boy away on an unforgettable Christmas Eve journey to the North Pole. Powered by roaring engines, rushing rails, and a sense of unstoppable wonder, the journey becomes a symbol of belief itself — carrying children through snowy forests, over icy landscapes, and into a world where magic feels real. The glowing headlight, the rumble of the tracks, and the call to “believe” remind us that sometimes the path to wonder begins with simply stepping aboard.

It’s especially fitting that this iconic holiday rail adventure takes center stage in Gloversville’s seasonal festivities — after all, the city has deep railroad roots. The Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville Railroad (or FJ&G) once played a vital role in local industry and transportation. Founded in the 1860s, the FJ&G connected the cities of Fonda, Johnstown, and Gloversville, moving goods — particularly leather products — and passengers across the region. The line helped fuel Gloversville’s growth during its glove-making heyday, symbolizing progress and connection much like the magical Polar Express does today.
