🎭 Trust Your Gut Productions: Winter Season of New Stage Works

Gloversville-based Trust Your Gut Productions (TYGP) is presenting an ambitious winter season of original theatre, cabarets, and new musicals in Downtown Gloversville and beyond. From January through March, TYGP will be headquartered at Shoeleather Express’ ED Center (31 Spring Street, Gloversville). Building owners and professional square-dance callers Elaine Mikenas and Dennis Viscanti have generously offered the renovated former church space while they are off-site for the winter. The venue features a spacious dance hall and performance area, a welcoming lobby and common room, and artist dorms for overnight stays—making it an ideal home for winter theatre production.

January brings two original murder mysteries:

  • The Carbonara Wedding Murder, TYGP’s hit Italian-American wedding comedy, returns with reconceived staging designed specifically for the former church venue.

  • Finals, Girls!, a world-premiere 1980s girls’ sleepover murder mystery, makes creative use of The Big Comfy Couch, now permanently housed at Shoeleather Express. The production will feature a rotating cast of local celebrities in the role of “Grandpa,” bringing the community together through humor, theatre, and mystery.

February highlights original cabaret performances:

  • Love All-Ways, a revised Vegas-style Valentine’s cabaret featuring love songs from every era and TYGP’s signature complex vocal harmonies. Performances include a fundraiser at the Johnstown Moose Lodge and a Valentine’s date-night event at Kingsboro Golf Club.

  • Songs By Us, a new cabaret showcasing original songs from TYGP members, featuring works by Michael Maricondi, Alyssa Rizzo, Ryan Spilken, Frank “deVer” Pullen, Sonny Duross, Raphael Cohen, Lillian Nevins, and more, accompanied by a live band.

March introduces two brand-new original musicals:

  • The Ledge, by Raphael Cohen, will be presented as a script-in-hand workshop production. The musical follows two young adults confronting their pasts, blending comedy, drama, and emotional depth. A demo cast recording is available on TYGP’s YouTube and SoundCloud channels.

  • Picture of David (Version 2.0 Workshop), a revised and expanded version of the musical first produced at The Glove Theatre in 2023, featuring updated book and lyrics by Alyssa Rizzo and Michael Maricondi, with an expanded score by Rizzo.

March will also open enrollment for TYGP’s 6th Annual Summer Academy, a free, four-week conservatory-style arts day camp for students known as “Rising Stars.” Participants receive professional-level training across performance and technical disciplines while creating an original adaptation of a literary work. The 2026 Academy will present The Velveteen Rabbit at Trail Station Park, in collaboration with the Gloversville Recreation Commission and the Gloversville Public Library.

A Creative Downtown on the Rise

Downtown Gloversville’s cultural resurgence is further anchored by Schine Memorial Hall Cultural & Arts Center, a historic landmark at 40 N. Main Street that has been reimagined as a vibrant hub for arts, music, and community engagement. Dating back to its origins as the Kasson Opera House in 1881, the Schine has long been central to the city’s cultural life and is now being revitalized through local investment and New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative support to host exhibits, concerts, lectures, and creative programming that celebrate both history and contemporary art. On the third floor, the Schine Gallery showcases rotating exhibits by local and regional artists, enriching Gloversville’s visual arts offerings and drawing visitors into the heart of downtown’s creative corridor.

Together with cooperative galleries, live performance venues, and artist-focused housing like Glove City Lofts, these institutions contribute to a thriving arts ecosystem that’s revitalizing downtown Gloversville as a cultural destination for residents and visitors alike.

The breadth of winter programming across downtown Gloversville underscores how the arts are not only flourishing but actively shaping the city’s future. Live music venues, professional theatre companies, cooperative galleries, and community-based arts organizations are filling historic buildings with new purpose while drawing audiences from across the region. With the addition of Glove City Lofts—encouraging artists to live downtown and housing the Glove Cities Gallery administered by the Glove Cities Arts Alliance—Gloversville is strengthening the link between creative expression, downtown living, and economic vitality. As performances, exhibitions, and new developments continue to grow in tandem, downtown Gloversville is emerging as a vibrant cultural destination where the arts are central to everyday life.
