Kick Off the Holiday Season in Gloversville on the Weekend of Dec. 5–7
Art Exhibit, Museum Open House, Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, Santa, Concerts & More

 

GLOVERSVILLE, NY – Downtown Gloversville will come alive December 5, 6, and 7 with festive events, family-friendly activities, and the community’s beloved annual Christmas Parade. From art exhibits and wreath-making workshops to concerts and museum tours, the city is celebrating the start of the holiday season with a full weekend of cheer.

 

Downtown Gloversville looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors for a magical holiday weekend. These events showcase the creativity, history, and community spirit that make our downtown so special.

 

We encourage you to confirm details directly with each organization or business, as some events may require an RSVP. Weekend events include:

 

Schine Gallery — “Schine on the Holidays 2025”
Located on the third floor of the Schine Memorial Hall building, 40 N. Main St., this exhibit features artists Mary Jane White and Leslie Ford, along with themed Christmas trees. Hours are Dec. 5 from 4–6 p.m., and Dec. 6 and 7 from 12–2 p.m.

 

* Micropolis Cooperative Inc. Art Gallery – “Holiday Show”

Located inside Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market, 30 N. Main St., this art exhibit is open through the end of December and focuses on local art that can be purchased for holiday gifts or decorations such as handcrafted ornament. Open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Glove Theatre Museum Open

Located next to The Glove Theatre at 42 N. Main St., this museum is dedicated to telling the story of the theater and Downtown Gloversville. On Dec. 6 beginning at 4 p.m., the museum will be open throughout the Christmas Parade until approximately 7 p.m. Visitors can meet Richard Samrov, Curator Emeritus, and learn about Gloversville, the Glove Theatre, and the Schine family.

 

Wreath-Making Workshops Held

Hosted by 44 Lakes Customized Gifts & Décor, 15 N. Main St., the seasonal wreath workshops will be held on Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. To RSVP, call (518) 720-9895. The fee is $25, and all materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves.

 

Gloversville Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting 

This annual tradition, hosted by the Gloversville Recreation Commission, takes place Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. (Rain date: Dec. 7.) The parade begins at North Main Street and Eighth Avenue and proceeds down Main Street to the intersection of South Main, Forest, and Vine streets. After the parade is the tree lighting in Wandel Park. Enjoy cocoa, cookies, live music, and free photos with Santa. Children are invited to bring letters for Santa and place them in the Santa Mailbox in the park.

 

A Very Jerry Christmas Concert

Dorn Space, 99 N. Main St., will host an evening of comedic zaniness and holiday cheer on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Join Jerry "What-the-What" Dymond and friends, with special holiday songs by Dr. Demento alumnus Drew Jacobs. Admission is $10 cash at the door.

Caroga Arts Collective: Tales & Legends of the Holiday Season 

This concert will be held at The Glove Theatre, 42 N. Main St., on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Enjoy selections from the Peer Gynt Suite performed by WARP Trio and Tchaikovsky’s iconic Nutcracker Suite. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to arrive early to participate in the “instrument petting zoo” and meet some of the musicians. * Revelation Open Mic

Dorn Space, 99 N. Main St., hosts an open microphone event on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. for family-friendly music, poetry, prose, preaching, prayer, storytelling, comedy, testimonies, and more, for seven minutes a spot. Admission is free, however, donations are appreciated. Doors open and sign-up begin at 1:15 pm.

 

The Gloversville Recreation Commission is also hosting a Window Decorating Contest for businesses along the parade route and in the downtown area. Entries are due Dec. 4. Businesses may contact the Commission at (518) 773-4542 or recreation@cityofgloversville.com for details.

Christmas Parade Slated for Dec. 6

If you’ve been thinking about joining the Gloversville Christmas Parade, now is the time! Please note: No Santa costumes on your float or with your group - Santa will be officially arriving on the last unit in the parade.Sign up here: https://form.jotform.com/252573906160154. Join us for the Gloversville Christmas Parade followed immediately by the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The parade route will begin at the intersection of North Main and 8th Avenue and will end on South Main Street at Forest & Vine Street. Walk over to Wandel Park on Spring Street and Elm immediately after the parade for cookies, cocoa, music and a visit from Santa himself as he helps us light our Christmas Tree. Santa will be there after for kids to visit and get their pictures taken.
